Putting down the manuscript, Chante stretched and yawned. She had gotten home in time to have pizza with her family. After putting Devon to bed, sheâd taken a shower and spent the rest of the evening making a few comments on a manuscript.
She always took the time to proofread every one of her clientâs manuscripts before submitting them to an editor for consideration. As a result, she had a reputation as an agent, who believed in her clientâs work. If she didnât think a manuscript was ready, she had no qualms about suggesting to her client that they have the material professionally edited first.
Dropping her ink pen onto the nightstand, she again stretched her arms over her head and yawned. She was tired. She didnât sleep well last night and was certain tonight couldnât be any easier. Ever since her return, her mind and emotions were in turmoil. After one night together, she realized just how much she missed sharing her bed with a man. Sex had never been a problem in her marriage. The warm, gentle Dorian Hunter had been a wonderful lover. The abusive Dorian took it out on her even in the bed. However, with Antonio he had been a patient lover who made sure she had gotten hers before he got his. A smile curled her lips as she thought of his body against hers.
Why hasnât he called today? she wondered. She had anxiously been watching her phone all day, hoping to hear from him. She had even checked her bedroom phone twice to make sure it was plugged in. Chante dragged her left leg to her chest and sighed. She had it bad, which was what she had been afraid of. Loving a man made you do crazy things. It was why she was so afraid of trusting. But despite her apprehensions, she was yearning to hear his voice. She could have picked up the phone and called him herself, but she didnât want to come off too strong by calling him two nights in a row. No. She would wait and let him make the next move. Part of her was disappointed that she hadnât heard from him yet, but she quickly reminded herself Antonio was a doctor and some things just couldnât be helped. She released another sigh. It was amazing how after just one weekend together she had gotten used to him being a part of her day.
While sitting on the bed in sweatpants and a T-shirt, another thought came to mind. She rose from the bed and moved over and retrieved her purse. Reaching inside, she pulled out the business card he had given her only minutes before his final kiss goodbye. She raced down the hall. It took all of five minutes for Pops to supply her with the information pertaining to the free email account and password heâd used to correspond with Antonio. As soon as she logged on, and opened her email, she was pleased to see that Pops had saved all the weeks of correspondence.
